Signature facilities: With a leadership gift from The James J. and Joan A. Gardner Family Foundation, the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute outpatient facility opened in 2019, with a patient-friendly design and 114,000-square-feet for over 125 neuroscience specialists, subspecialists and care teams. In 2023, the Gardner Foundation and other donors supported a renovation of the neuroscience intensive care unit at UC Medical Center.
A revolution for ALS: A $13.5 million gift from the estate of Hugh H. Hoffman, MBA ’63, will revolutionize ALS research and care. It creates two endowed chairs, one for clinical care and one for research.
Personalized medicine: Philanthropy was crucial to launching the Cincinnati Cohort Biomarker Project, led by Alberto Espay, MD, designed to define neurodegenerative diseases by unique biomarkers. To date, the project has uncovered the genetic causes of approximately 30% of the 341 enrolled patients.
Community crowdfunding: Since 2013, patients, families and friends have raised more than $5.5 million for research and patient care through Walk Ahead for Brain Tumor Discoveries, Sunflower Rev It Up WALK/RUN/RIDE for Parkinson's and other community events.
